The black background and the bright outlines can present themselves in their stark actuality because in its demonstrative factitiousness scepticism is included – scepticism about the dimensions of what reality is.
As a model case for opacity or perceptibility of reality they remain images – and maintain their character as instances of intermediation.
A viewer’s gaze which is used to the contingency of things would arbitrarily spot that what is there to be seen and bring things into a context that would follow disposition rather than composition, the medium being identified as the basis for the staging of the phenomenal.
In this case, the presence of image and object is different in kind: the “true” thing is what is existent as an image, what is untrue is the object. Both, the image and the object contribute to the visualization according to what they are, the former as itself, is a fact, the latter is something different as an image, is a fiction.
